  • Are you getting ready for the big day, but need help building positive communication habits with your fiance?

  • Do you vacillate between stony silence or rounds of arguments with your friends, family or colleagues?

  • Are you just sharing a roof with your family, but nothing else in common?

  • Do your communications with some of your friends, family or colleagues keep getting taken out of context, and your real intentions always land sideways?

I can help!

I have extensive experiences working in academia and in various clinical settings. Previously I was a full-time professor and clinical supervisor at a nationally accredited master’s level MFT program in the state of New York before moving to Washington State. I have also published articles and gave presentations and seminars in the national conferences and local communities. I am currently an adjunct professor at Kairos University.

I have worked extensively in public and private mental health settings, including university clinics, youth and family services, community substance abuse treatment center, state contracted counseling programs and child guidance center. For decades, I was in a private practice, working with individuals, couples and families. I have worked with a wide range of client population, both voluntary and involuntary ones with various issues, ranging from individual’s behavioral and mental issues, grief, trauma, alcohol and substance use, couple’s relationships, family’s conflicts, and life transitions.

AAMFT Clinical Fellow

I am also an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and a Clinical Fellow and have provided over seven hundred hours of individual, dyadic and group supervision in the academic training program and in my private practice. I enjoy providing supervision to licensed mental health professionals who seek to advance their clinical knowledge and skills in their practice

I am sensitive to cross-cultural factors and respect that people are experts in their own care. In addition to English, I speak Mandarin Chinese fluently. I can conduct therapy in both English and Mandarin Chinese simultaneously. My bilingual capacity is a great asset, especially for those Mandarin-speaking immigrant families that raise an English-speaking younger generation.

I am also honored to be the 2019 Recipient of the WAMFT Diversity Award.

My professional involvement goes beyond the counseling room and academic settings. I deeply care about the issues of mental health accessibility to the public and of advancing the professional field as a whole. In April 2018 I was honored to be invited by American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy to meet and speak with Congressional members in Washington D.C. to advocate for the marriage and family therapists as eligible Medicare providers in the U.S.
